ImageTo increase the academic performance of the students and harness their skills for a global competition, General Santos City High School (GSCHS) formally opened its Cyber Ed/ ICT Center on September 27, 2007

This is the project of the General Parents Teachers and Community Associations (GPTCA) and the school administration for this school year.

The edifice which serves as Electronic Library and Internet Café is an offshoot of the regional flagship project - Advancing Learning using Electronic and Relevant Technologies (ALERT) launched on August 23, 2006. It stores 592 interactive learning materials in compact discs, 41 computer units with internet access, 4 printers, and a projector.

In a turnover speech of Willie C Ramos, GPTCA president, he was thankful to have put up such a legacy which benefits a lot of people in the community.

On the other hand, Angelito C. Llanos, GSCHS Officer In-Charge said that this new development will make our school more advance practically because it has its own website, www.generalsantoscityhighschool.com.

“With the use of cyber net technologies, the online resources pave for both teachers and students to vast information,” Llanos added.

Llanos also assured that the ICT Center will be used to the maximum by the students, teachers, parents and the community as well.

Meanwhile, DepEd Regional Director Dr. Luz S. Almeda stressed that this milestone of education is filled with high expectation and hope which assure the students to be technologically updated.

Moreover, the idea was sounded by Hon. City Mayor Pedro B. Acharon Jr. but lamented on the fact that even though the academic performances of the students are considerably high, it is still not enough for us to be dubbed “Globally Competitive”.

Acharon placed deep emphasis on the fact that teachers must be educated about the use of internet for the reasons that students are willing and more enthusiastic to study using computers than books and that it enables us to keep track in the highway of technology.

“We are launching these projects in our desire to include our students in the mainstream of technology. Our program teachers should try to work out the gaps between students with high and low academic performances”, Acharon reiterated.

On the other hand, Estrella C. Lariosa, CESO IV, the Schools Division Superintendent emphasized the importance of collaboration in achieving success.
“The ICT Center is the fruit of synergism among stakeholders,” she further said.

Similarly, other stakeholders’ representatives expressed their appreciation and support to the project. Present during the ceremony were the CLIC Program Manager Arcille Catherine B. Raagas, Chief Administration Officer of Innove Communications Inc. Raquel Cagurangan, General Manager of MetroBank Salvador Domago Jr., and Brgy. Captain of Calumpang, Engr.Cirilo R. Forones.
